About the shop · Since 2015

A small crew of Gettysburg hikers behind the counter.

Ridgeline Outfitters isn't a chain with a Gettysburg zip code — it's five locals who spend their weekends on the same battlefield trails and Michaux ridgelines we sell gear for. We opened on Buford Avenue in 2015, and we've stayed small on purpose.

Our Story

Started with one bad pair of boots.

In 2015, our founder Dave Kessler hiked the entire Billy Yank Trail in boots that fell apart by mile nine. He figured if a battlefield-trail town like Gettysburg couldn't outfit its own hikers properly, somebody ought to fix that. Ridgeline Outfitters opened that fall on Buford Avenue, stocked with the boots, packs, and layers Dave wished he'd had.

A decade later we're still a small crew — five of us, all hikers, all locals — hand-picking gear that holds up on the Adams County trails we walk every weekend, from the battlefield's Billy Yank and Johnny Reb Trails to weekend runs up to Michaux State Forest.

"We don't sell anything we haven't hiked in ourselves." — Dave Kessler, Founder

Why shop local

What you get from a shop that hikes here

The gear you'll find online anywhere. What you can't get online is a fitting from someone who walked the exact trail you're about to.

Local trail knowledge

We hike the Round Tops, the battlefield avenues, and Michaux on our own time. Ask us about a route and you'll get a real answer, not a printout.

Honest fitting

We'd rather sell you the right $120 boot than the wrong $200 one. If a piece isn't right for your trip, we'll say so.

Gear repair & support

Blown a zipper or a boot eyelet before a big trip? Bring it in. We handle small repairs in-house and stand behind what we sell.

Word on the trail

What local hikers are saying

Sample reviews, shown to illustrate the kind of service the shop is built around.

"Talked me out of the wrong boots and into the right ones — my feet survived all four days of the Billy Yank loop without a single blister."

Renee O.Fairfield, PA

"Real gearheads, not just a register. They set up my whole car-camping kit for a Michaux weekend and it all just worked."

Tom I.Gettysburg, PA

"Ordered a rain shell online for in-store pickup on a Friday afternoon — ready in twenty minutes, exactly the fit I needed."
